Hike Mountain Elgon

Mount Elgon Hiking Safari – 6 Days
A typical 6-day hiking itinerary for Mount Elgon offers an immersive trekking experience through one of East Africa’s most scenic and less-traveled mountains. The journey usually begins with a transfer from Kampala to the foothills of Mount Elgon, arriving at Budadiri or the Mbale region where hikers prepare for the trek.
On Day 2, the hike starts from Budadiri, ascending steeply through farmland and forest to reach Sasa Camp at about 2,900 meters, a challenging 7–8 hour trek.
Day 3 involves trekking from Sasa Camp to Mude Camp at 3,500 meters through lush montane forest, a slightly easier 4–5 hour hike.
Day 4 is the highlight, with an early start to summit Wagagai Peak, the highest point at 4,321 meters. The trek crosses moorlands and offers panoramic views before descending back to Mude Camp.
On Day 5, hikers descend to Budadiri and transfer to the scenic Sipi Falls area for an overnight stay at a local lodge. The final day is spent traveling back to Kampala, concluding the adventure.
